3 years of AgID: challenges, strategies and objectives

3 years of AGID is the catalogue describing the digital transformation strategy of the Italian public services

AGID’s path toward the modernisation of the Public Administration started with the identification of  strategies and actions in the document “Strategy for Digital Growth” and then continued with the Italian digital transformation strategy, which has been described in the “The Three-Year Plan 2017-2019 for ICT in the Public Administration”.

3 years of AGID is the catalogue describing the digital transformation strategy of the Italian public services.

What has happened in recent years

In 2015 the projects to implement the activities foreseen by the “Strategy for Digital Growth” have been identified and prioritised. The “Strategy for Digital Growth” represents the action plan for the fulfilment of the objectives of the Italian Digital Agenda, which has been approved by the Council of Ministers in March 2015.

In 2016 a strategic model for the evolution of the Italian information system has been developed. On the basis of this model a) rules and standards are defined, and enabling platforms developed by the public sector; b) the private sector establishes long-term investment programs and exploits new market opportunities by creating solutions that integrate with national platforms.

In 2017 the “The Three-Year Plan 2017-2019 for ICT in the Public Administration” has been drafted. The Plan is the strategic and economic policy document that allows the implementation of digital transformation projects.

In 2018, a new phase of the strategy has started. AGID has developed a catalogue depicting tools and skills to facilitate the execution of the Three-Year Plan at the local level. This catalogue will support Italian Regions in the implementation of their own digital agenda in line with the objectives set at national level.
