What are Qualified Trust Services?

Qualified Trust Services are a set of electronic services that guarantee a high level of security and reliability in digital transactions. They are defined and regulated by the European Union (EU) eIDAS Regulation No. 910/2014 and, in Italy, are subject to the supervision of the Agency for Digital Italy.

These services can be used to:

  • securely identify and authenticate people online;
  • electronically sign documents and transactions, confirming their authenticity and non-repudiation;
  • send and receive electronic communications with legal value;
  • store documents and data securely and reliably.

The Report

In the second half of 2023, there were 32.3 million active qualified digital signature certificates, a significant rise from the 30.2 million registered in the first half of the year. Remote digital signatures generated amounted to 3.5 billion, again up from 3.3 billion in the previous half-year, while time stamps issued were almost 2.13 billion, of which 97.92% were qualified under Art. 42 eIDAS.
