The data on qualified trust services provided by the Agency for Digital Italy are now available for consultation.

The report was drafted on the basis of declarations submitted by Qualified Trust Service Providers (QTSPs) in Italy, supervised by AgID in accordance with the European Union (EU) eIDAS Regulation.

What are Qualified Trust Services?

Qualified Trust Services are a set of digital tools that guarantee the authenticity, integrity and non-repudiation of online transactions. They include electronic signatures (perhaps the most popular), electronic seals and time stamps.

They play a key role in today's digital ecosystem, protecting online transactions from fraud and counterfeiting. They also increase trust in digital interactions between individuals and public administrations, and simplify and shorten bureaucratic processes.

The first semester of 2024: some figures

In the first half of the year, the number of qualified electronic signature certificates increased compared to the previous six months, from 32.2 to 32.9 million.

The number of qualified electronic time stamps issued also increased: there were 2.1 billion in the second half of 2023 and 2.4 billion in the first half of 2024.

Slightly down, however, was the number of remote electronic signatures generated, which decreased to 3.4 billion compared to 3.5 billion in the second half of 2023, but growing when compared to the figure for the first half of 2023, when 3.3 billion signatures were generated.
