'Shaping our digital future together' was the motto of the 2025 edition of the Global Internet Governance Forum (IGF), which took place in Lillestrøm, Norway, from 23 to 27 June.
The Director General, Mario Nobile, presented Italy's vision for the governance of the global IA sector. This vision is based on the principles of effectiveness, inclusivity and democracy. Mr Nobile emphasised the importance of an ethical, cooperative and transparent approach to regulation, and highlighted Italy's contribution to the development of a regulatory and technical framework that can protect fundamental rights and promote innovation.
During the event, the Director also participated in a panel discussion on the sustainability of artificial intelligence models. This workshop explored innovative solutions to reduce the environmental impact of AI and promote more sustainable practices and technologies throughout the life cycle of intelligent systems. This was an important opportunity to demonstrate Italy's commitment to promoting environmentally responsible AI.
A representative of AgID, Concettina Cassa, also attended. She is a member of the MAG (Multistakeholder Advisory Group) IGF, an official of the Institutional and International Relations Service, and coordinator of the IGF Italia event. She spoke on a panel organised by the Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO). The topic of the panel was international cooperation to strengthen digital resilience. Ms Cassa highlighted the importance of integrating the objectives of the Global Digital Compact into the WSIS framework. She also said that the role of the IGF and of the National and Regional Initiatives (NRIs) should be enhanced in this context.
